Introduction The
Fourth
Symposium on the Alpha-Amylase Family - ALAMY_4
-
will be held at the
Congress Centre of the Slovak
Academy
of Sciences,
This is the FOURTH symposium on the alpha-amylase family. The effort to organise this Symposium has been based on the success of the preceding three Symposia, ALAMY_1, ALAMY_2 and ALAMY_3 that were evoked by the rapidly growing knowledge on this family and its enormous scope. It has been our aim to make these Symposia platform for informal discussions about the most recent results and international collaborations in the field of the alpha-amylase family in its widest sense. The scientific program of the ALAMY_4 will be focused again to various aspects of the alpha-amylase enzyme family including the topics from the clan GH-H (families GH13, GH70 and GH77) - especially the: (i) structure/function relationships; (ii) metabolism of starch and glycogen; (iii) novel GH13 subfamilies; and (iv) extremophilic amylolytic enzymes. The “cousin” families GH31 and GH57 could also be covered. A space will also be provided for lectures about the starch-binding domains (i.e. various CBM families) as well as for those about the applied aspects of starch processing. Within the sessions the findings on new primary and tertiary structures, specificity and evolution, protein engineering, catalytic and binding mechanisms, and stability and stabilization are expected to be presented. All “amylase” people will equally be welcome! The Symposium will be held in the Smolenice Castle situated on a hill above the small city of Smolenice, which lies at the foot of Small Carpathian Mountains 60 km North-east from Bratislava. The participants will also be accommodated in the Castle. Beautiful natural surrounding and attractive interiors of the Castle create a special atmosphere for scientific discussions, relaxation and meeting friends. The number of participants is limited to ~80 due to the capacity of the Castle. Therefore the rule "first come - first served" will be used as the main base. We are looking forward to welcome you in Smolenice! Yours, Stefan Janecek, main organizer |
